Trackguide: dit moet je weten over Autódromo José Carlos Pace
Yes, the most swinging Grand Prix of the year is this weekend on the program. We prepare you for all the beauty that is to come. Music!!!

Facts, fun & more

First of all, what you need to know to get the mood going. Officially called the circuit in Sao Paulo “Autódromo José Carlos Pace”, but that is such a long name to have to type it in. For convenience, we will keep it therefore at Interlagos, as the track better known.

The asphalt of this circuit was, until recently, even bubbelig as a blown Brazilian bilpartij, but through new asfaltlagen is the worst suffering in the past. The bumpy nature was partly to blame Interlagos known as a very physically heavy. Jos Verstappen (who are obviously a special relationship with this circuit, about which more later) stepped in after the race in 2000 completely demolished from his Arrows. In the last laps he put on his head once more upright.

Interlagos

That also has to do with another property of the job. Interlagos runs against the clock, where most circuits are clockwise. The neck muscles will be so in a different way in charge and 2,000 times in a row with 3G+ on your neck are you going to feel. I think, for my racing career has only several hours on the kart track and the great Junkyardrace.

We wander! Interlagos is several times has been the scene for seizoensontknopingen. In 2006, it was Schumacher in his last race (his first retirement) champion could be. That failed unfortunately. In 2007, one Kimi were times at the longest end, to give themselves a point difference to the champion to crown (video). In 2008, it was the champagne at Ferrari are already out of the cooling drawn, but Lewis Hamilton relished in the last turns the title from Felipe Massa (video). You understand: on Interlagos is always something to do.

For example, think of the first thuiszege of Ayrton Senna (warning: very emotional video), or to the debut of none other than Jos Verstappen (video). The Dutchman had after a wild action of cowboy Eddie Irvine the grass and made then a sturdy pair of somersaults. Also, it might be that the teams and riders to be raided by locals (no video). Risk of the box, shall we say.

Unfortunately, the denouement for this season already, as Lewis the “king of the bling” Hamilton already with the draw off is gone. Nevertheless, it is an interesting racing on a beautiful circuit, which is also a beautiful history.

The circuit

Because not every curve just as exciting, we explain in each case the hoogtepuntjes.

Senna S and Curva del Sol

Senna S Interlagos

The first turn of the circuit. Sometimes be the necessary problems at the start of the race and, of course, is named after the Brazilian racegod. Can catch up here fine, Juan Pablo Montoya does it, for a moment, with Michael Schumacher as a direct object (video).

The following is a linkerbocht that is extended from the first combination. Going downhill and in rain, than also for a lot of trouble to ensure. In 2003, for example, washed here and one after another the driver of the circuit (video).

Descida do Lago

Descida do Lago

Linkerbocht after one of the two DRS zones on the circuit, so go there, but from here a lot of overtaking. Jos Verstappen kegelde here ever Montoya of the job, when the latter, the Dutch on a round of trying to convert (video). Incidentally, did the Colombian, very sporty, to say that that kind of thing once, it can happen. Classy!

Juncão

Juncão

The last linkerbocht (indeed, a lot of left turns) in the direction of the semi-straight stretch towards the start/finish leads. Max Verstappen put themselves in this corner, directly on the map, during a free training with a slide board to lay down (video).

Arquibancadas

Arquibancadas

Not a very significant nod, were it not for Fernando Alonso once almost dead, and laid by with full speed at the tyre band of the crashed Mark Webber to drive (video). A blast of intense activity.

The Grand Prix this weekend (2015)

The weather forecasts are great for those of rain, because the chance is great that on Friday and Saturday, pouring that it is a nature. For the Sunday we unfortunately have little say about it. Further, it is the job of ‘medium’ in terms of ratio of straights/bends. Our Max is not too powerful Renault engine, so is not per se a disadvantage.

DRS zones are located on the straight at start/finish line and on the straight stretch after the first three turns. Further, it is the job 4.309 meters long and the lap record in the name of Juan Pablo Montoya. He drove in 2004 a laptime of 1:11,473 together. Go there but from that lap time this year will not be broken.

GP Brazil on television

Sunday will start the race at 17:00 (evening) Dutch time. Dutch viewers will be able to 19:30 a summary look at Veronica and do not need to resort to grainy streams with Swahili commentary on the webs. Incidentally, the BBC also an option for those in excellent English commentary and beautiful backgrounds prefer. Those who necessarily live wants to see a customer at Ziggo or a Sport1-abo.
