Shanghai currently has to do with the harmful smog ever.
The smog reached today a density of 602.5 micrograms per cubic meter. That is the highest reading ever (since the town about this data tracking). Just for comparison: in the Netherlands the density of the particulate/smog, on average, not higher than 40 micrograms per cubic meter…
Schoolchildren should stay indoors and construction work are shut down, fireworks is prohibited in the city and public sporting events are cancelled. They are also so smart to fewer cars to drive around, the Chinese government let public vehicles are stationary.
But what are the main causes of this smog?
- Cars: the number of cars in Shanghai continues to grow.
- Wind: if there is no wind, the smog will not be discharged.
- Cold: if the temperature decreases then there are more coal fired. More coal = more smog.
- Christmas: factories are working day and night to meet the demand for christmas products.
