Ambition can you guys from Local Motors does not deny, and occasionally a car from the 3d printer is one thing, but is the world ready to buy them?

The Arizona-based Local Motors, known for the Rally Fighter, a revolution was announced. They want the assembly process of the major car manufacturers to challenge the by – on a much smaller scale – auto-parts-to-print and to put together. Something that last year led to the world’s first working 3D-printed car.

That was still a concept, they now want in the direction of a production model. To create a final design, they wrote a contest, where some 60 serious entries on the end result. The winner is the Reload Redacted – Swim/Sport. A design consisting of two different body styles. Can just, for body panels, you have a snap to replace. The Sport variant has a top and a sporty front (and MX-5-rear lights), while the Swim a bit more strandbuggy-like appearance.

The ‘basis’, where the bodywork around it is buildings

The winner was chosen by a jury full of car-bobo’s, including Jay Leno. Local Motors will now be with the design to get to a production version of it, in the first quarter of 2016 on the way will come. Specs, we have not yet, but we already know that it is a ‘low speed’ EV. Versions with higher, more highway-appropriate speed come at a later stage.

An electrically driven chassis where car designers themselves, a body around which can come up with. If this is to succeed, then we go back to the time of coachbuilders and craftsmen, but through Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM). They must have all the crash tests and safety requirements, but that’s a concern for later.
