Soon to purchase: a sports car with e-drive, based on a Lotus chassis. What, is it already 2008?
Detroit Electric, the new kid on the block, calls for some time that the SP:01 into production was going to take, and showed there are invariably pictures of a model on the basis of the open Elise. But the final design is something else. Detroit Electric gives SP:01 a different bumper, a new diffuser and a fixed spoiler, a decent rear window and throws the removable hardtop in the trash, since it is a coupé with a fixed roof. A kind of fastback design with nice broad achterstijlen.
At the front the air intakes modified, but how it looks like we don’t know yet, because we have so far only a picture of the new rear. Detroit Electric says that the battery (37kWh, versus 53kWh in the six-year-old Roadster Tesla is now housed in a protective housing, which is now a part of the voertuigstructuur, with a higher torsional rigidity can be the result.
The specs are not yet changed. The electric motor between the rear wheels makes a top speed of 155 miles per hour (249 km/h) and acceleration from 0 to 60 miles takes 3.7 seconds. The power output is 204 hp with a maximum torque of 225 Nm.
The production of the SP:01 will be out later this year in a new production of Detroit Electric in Leamington Spa, UK.
For comparison: below, the old design of the SP:01. With the amendments, the Lotus-sauce on the elektrokar less perceptible, which makes it look less dated look.
