Microsoft: New processors — only for Windows 10

Windows

Starting with the Intel platform the item has been added, Windows 7 and 8.1 will not be updated for new processors. Therefore, buying a new computer, you have to consider the fact that older versions of Windows not supported. Microsoft has announced changes to the rules to support their previous operating systems. Under these new rules, the owners of computers based on new generations of processors are Intel, AMD and Qualcomm from Microsoft operating systems have to use Windows 10.

Details of the new rules of support for older Windows operating systems have been considered in the published resource The Verge article Dante D Orazio (Dante D Orazio) “Microsoft says the new processors will only work with Windows 10”.

Usually it is the opposite: the reason for purchasing another computer is the incongruity of the old with the new operating system. This time Microsoft and its partners have just decided not to do the work that is required to ensure compatibility of new hardware with older versions of Windows. Old OS in the best case, will simply remain without the latest updates. At worst, they will not work properly.

Microsoft notes:

Ahead of the new generation “silicon”, which will require the support of the latest Windows platform by the time of its release. Windows 10 will be the only platform supported by the upcoming “silicon” Intel “Kaby Lake”, the upcoming “silicon” Qualcomm “8996” and the upcoming “silicon” AMD “Bristol Ridge”.

However, the new rules should not be a complete cessation of support for Windows 7 and 8.1. These two operating systems will continue to receive updates until January 14, 2020 (7) and 10 January 2023 (8.1). But only if you use hardware that is “age” appropriate operating system and compatible with it. It should be noted in regard to Windows 7, that its main support was terminated in mid-January 2016.

Computer users need to know that the current sixth generation of Intel processors, known under the name of the item has been added, will be the first non-support of older versions of Windows (Intel and Microsoft say that these platforms are made for each other).

With regard to corporate consumers, who often defer upgrading hardware and software for maximum stability, Microsoft notes that it will support Windows 7 and 8.1 for the item has been added list of approved systems until 17 July 2017. This approach gives companies 18 months to buy for the staff of modern software before you upgrade to Windows 10.

Windows

During this period “the most important security updates Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will be addressed to these configurations and will come out, if it does not present risk to the reliability and compatibility of Windows 7/8 platforms.1 on other devices”. Businesses and consumers, of course, can continue to buy computers based on old hardware and not use any Intel the item has been added, nor other modern processors. The latest generation of Windows supporting old processors is platform, known as Broadwell, these chips are still widely available.

The new rules not only made happy Microsoft partners — because they don’t have to carry the costs of development numerous and costly software updates for previous versions of Windows, but Microsoft and will help in the rapid spread of Windows 10, which is the ninth version of the operating system.

The company considers 10 as the “final” version of Windows, considering the operating system is not in the quality of the product and the service. Therefore, there will be only one current version of Windows on which the company will focus its efforts, not wasting them on extended support leaving in past platforms.

Will users increasingly proceed to Windows 10 or longer prefer not to update their computers, in order to stay with the familiar OS?
