The so-called ecocombi’s, trucks with a length of 25.25 meters are allowed to have their cargo across more and more roads to transport.
Regular trucks have a maximum length of 18.75 metres, but there drive since 2000 and gradually all trailers with a length of around 25 metres. Supertrucks that 10 extra tonnes are allowed to transport (60 instead of 50), and therefore more consumeerspul from place A to place B, without that fuel consumption is proportional increases. Actually, they have the best muesli.
Since 1 January 2013 these giants officially out of the testing phase, and entrepreneurs are allowed to start working with them. Transport and Logistics Netherlands (TLN) today announced that there are now nearly 950 are in use. Where they send or download nasty stuff? However, outside of freeways, they are allowed only on a predetermined driving route, and they may not be on the road to participate in fog or extreme weather conditions. The built-up area is also taboo, of course.
Today, the department has a number of additional N-roads are added to the routes of the Ecocombi’s. This applies to the following roads:
- N99 between De Kooy and Den Oever
- N57 between Middelburg and Vrouwenpolder (roundabout in the village, hm 71,1)
- N35 between Zwolle and Raalte
- N33 from the A7 to the port of Eemshaven
- N9 between Alkmaar and De Kooy
So don’t be alarmed if you soon one of THESE combinations is to be found in rural Netherlands. Our east – and southern neighbours do not need to be afraid that they come to visit, the 25-metre long Ecocombi’s are allowed to the border -yet – not-pass.
Updated, 09-04-2014: as of July 2014, you can these combinations also with our southern neighbors find.
