China arrests human rights lawyer

The Chinese authorities have China’s most prominent human rights lawyer formally arrested on charges of undermining the state.

Her lawyer said Wednesday that the arrest should be seen in the light of the hard approach of activists which people have helped in the fight for their rights.
The arrested lawyer Wang Yu was in July last year, taken into custody, and the month after being accused of inciting ‘subversive’ activities and ‘causing public disorder’. A formal arrest usually leads to a trial and a condemnation by a by the communist party-controlled court.
In July last year picked up the Chinese police during an unprecedented national campaign of hundreds of lawyers, including Wang.
