#photo of the day | On the border of Earth and space

meteor

Due to its location at an altitude of 2400 meters above sea level, the Observatory of La Silla, located on a hill in the southern part of the Chilean desert Attacks, has the possibility of observing the beauty of the starry night sky almost without any external distorting factors.

The view here is so incredible that in the end, you can get such amazing images here, looking at that it begins to seem that the Earth and the cosmos are one.

On today’s photo you can see one of the meteors geminid, which flies over the domes of the Observatory telescopes at the La Silla European southern Observatory, leaving a bright trail. Hard to believe that this picture is not uniform and consists of several separate shots. The description reads:

“Color image of the meteor above the telescopes of La Silla and the inversion layer in the southern part of the Atacama desert in Chile. The telescopes of the European southern Observatory (ESO) is able to observe in the optical and infrared range. The largest Observatory telescope uses a mirror diameter of 3.6 meters. The high location of La Silla (2400 metres above sea level), the night sky and clean the air (reducing atmospheric distortions of incoming light) make this place unique and ideal for astronomical observations”.
