Popular with the youngtimerrijder and perhaps the most beautiful 5-Series that BMW ever made: BMW E39 5 Series.
This 5 Series went into production in the year 1995 and was (after a facelift in september 2000 was made), ultimately, up to and including 2003 built. The models after the facelift are the easiest to recognize to other light units front and rear, and the wheels sprayed strips. The E39 was in two variations produced: the sedan and the touring. That last was, incidentally, on the AutoRAI revealed, at a time when the AutoRAI to have any respect had worldwide.
As all real BMW’s the E39 with rear-wheel drive and, for its class, sporty handling. The stiffness of the chassis was so good that in the development of the successor (the E60) do not even bother did this to the chassis yet stijfer. Of course there is a wide choice of fine zescilinders and a number of nice V8 engines, but there was also one four-cylinder diesel: the 520d.
The E39 BMW 5 Series was available with petrol engines ranging from 150 to 286 hp, the diesels were in it flavours ranging from 115 to 184 hp. The E39 M5 with 400 hp we will save for a los advice, because they are too cool to side in an article as this to treat.

Issues
The list of concerns is one that the logical wear parts for a car of this age out of consideration. Rubbers dry out, and rust comes with time, the discs go on, shock absorbers lose their functioning and electronics to exhibit more frequent treatments as the age of a car increases. Everything dubbelchecken so. Particularly with older cars is that a service book with lots of dealerstempels the price increases. That surely applies to a popular car like the E39 5-series.
- The V8 engines are seductively delicious, but a lot less solid than the zescilinders. In addition, perform the zescilinders very pleasant, so you may ask yourself whether you have a V8 must be like.
- Crooked wearing rear tires are usually the result of worn ophangingsrubbers.
- The air mass sensor indicates there is still empty at the 520d, 525d and 530d. A new sensor must be read on the ECU.
- The same diesels also have problems with the injectors, causing misfires can arise.
- The swirflaps of the diesels that break down and block. Easiest fix: just delete, because you notice there is little of during the drive and it can’t hurt.
- Early 530’s had a ECU that too much boost on the turbo’s allowed. This allows the turbos to fail. A new turbo and reprogramming of the ECU are necessary.
- The water pump of the petrol V8 engines are not the most reliable. Also the intake manifold and the block itself are prone to cracking, so if your coolant levels drops, serious problems mean.
- The brake lines are prone to rust, especially in the area above the fuel tank.
- The LCD’s fail sometimes, to replace it costs a few hundred euros.
- The circuit breakers are “sealed for life”, which means something like “BMW replaces the liquid, in principle, not”, so they still go to piece to go around the 200,000 km. A specialist can do this for you, it is recommended every 100,000 miles for the gearbox to flush.
- The ECU’s of the 528i go to regularly piece.
- The rear door of the Touring rust, especially under the separate open achterruitje.
- The deurrubbers are not the strongest point of the E39 Fünfer.
- The V8 engines are known for problems with the Nikasil coating of the cylinder liners. This was mainly caused by gasoline with a high content of sulphur. Meanwhile, the fuel-much less sulfur in them, and would these problems not have to do. In addition, this was a particular problem in the United Kingdom and the USA, here in Europe, has been fuel for much longer little sulfur in them. Be, of course, be alert if you are from the USA or the UK imported car considering.
- It is very easy to servicelampje to reset it, so only one account proves a recent overhaul.
