Porsche 911 (991) Carrera 4 GTS: driving test and video

Another phone Porsche 911? Or perhaps this is the candy from the series that you must have? We sought it out for you.

If you have a Porsche 911 want to drive then you have at the time of writing choice from 20 flavours. Yep, twenty-variants Porsche 991, I’m not kidding. For the sake of clarity. That is, the number of which is currently to be found on the website of Porsche. And we are not done yet, because there is still a GT3 RS, plus no doubt a load of tasty designs. If the counter is at the end of the life cycle of the 991 ends elevated above the 30 we are certainly not surprised.
Question is which variant you should choose if you work for a 911 decision to choose. Choose a sporty-flavoured or just for luxury? Do you want a blown block, or rather, of course, breathable? Do you want a rear-wheel powered 911 or a car with four-wheel drive? Manual gearbox or automatic transmission? There are a lot of choices to make. What if you all could fill? If I should choose it would be sporty, but it’s not mobile. Prefer the looks of a vierwielaandgedreven variant (wider wheel arches in the rear) but rear wheel drive. And I’m a dumb romantic, so I would have a manual gearbox want. Power? Preferably, of course, and breathability as much as possible.
If I make the sum make the GTS so, on paper, in the near of my dream-911. The wide wheel arches are on the GTS standard, whether you choose a two – or four wheel drive variant. Also standard are the centerlock 20 inch wheels from the Turbo S, finished in black (like almost all of the details on the GTS) and the sportier bumpers are also good. Under the hood we find a natural-breathing six-cylinder boxer engine of 3.8 liters, which can can be operated with a seven-speed PDK or Porsche own zevenbak transmission. The power? The Carrera S, plus the powerkit, Porsche Exclusive provide for 430 hp and 440 Nm of torque. This is a package that I can enchant.
The GTS looks nice and thick. With the key in my hand I walk quietly around the car, to find all the details to me. The stance is nice, thanks to a 10 millimeters lowering associated with on the GTS standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The color (Crimson) is also very nice. The huge type on the back betrays the fact that I “unfortunately” with a four-wheel drive version on the word path is sent. It would be my personal preference not to have it, but Porsche wants to, of course, anything and everything, let see what they have. In the interior, it is especially alcantara all over the place. Delicious, good for the sporty ambience in this car. The three-spoke sports steering wheel is comfortable in the hand. We are in the course of the years terribly spoiled touched with steering wheel remote, but I must say that I find it refreshing to once again just send to to to send. This three-spoke steering wheel is only with a set of up / down shifters for the PDK gearbox to operate, as well as two glass windows with me (if applicable) subtly remind you of the fact that the Sport / Sport Plus mode is switched on. With a twist of the key starts the six-cylinder engine quietly humming. I decide not to click the buttons Sport and / or Sport Plus button, the first part of my route is still only through busy traffic and on the highway. The GTS is emerging as a lame dog. Does what you ask, without drama, almost languid throttle response. Fine for this traffic. If we the entrance of the highway is empty, I decide the gas a little deeper in to the steps. A dark hum, a lot of gear, but again, this remains a drama omitted.
After a bit of highway driving it is time for a more rural route, so just before we take the exit onto I conclude with optimism, the Sport Plus button. Immediately turn the bowl back from 7 to 4, the exhaust valve open for additional noise and feel the accelerator as a cheerful puppy that is just a little wild, bouncing ball has seen: triggerhappy. I scared me for a while, the transformation is huge, bigger than I had estimated. And that seems to be the best position for this car on the damp roads. It gives the car more roll and forgiveness than the full beast mode of the Sport Plus button. That button is fun on a sunny Sunday afternoon in June, but now it’s a little too violently. Sport picks the sharpest edges of the throttle response and the chassis, but it is nevertheless retescherp. Man, I’m still fond of the handling of the 991. Delicious alert section and solid back work well together remains a pleasure. In a four-wheel drive version as this is in fact even easier, a rear-wheel drive variant calls, in particular, turn off a little more patience and precision, the four wheel drive variant and is left simply can stamp and the technique you will calculate how to get the most efficient forward flight. The grip seems almost boundless, but you go over the edge of that grip, than is the behavior of the 911 GTS also predictable. And so I had to make the calculation. A manual Porsche 911 Carrera GTS with rear-wheel drive will cost me 151.742 euro at the time of writing. What I say, make it a PDK, easier in traffic jams: €147.000 euros (for CO2, etc). Add to that a glass roof, the GTS interior package and sportkuipen and I am a happy man. Then I would for around 155.000 euros my daily dream-911. Obviously, cabriolet, Targa and four wheel drive versions are more expensive, but I have no interest in.
For comparison, with my dream-911: Porsche 991 Carrera S costs in the basis of €133.800 euro. The Porsche Exclusive Power Package to run on the same 430 hp to come cost even more than €14.500 euros, a total of thick €148,000 of the euro. You can see where this math problem? This combination alone is already more expensive than the 991 GTS with PDK, and then you’ve got the big 20-inch centerlock wheels, wider body and all the GTS goodies (ok, not the GTS interior package of €3500 euros, but Alcantara, etc.) free got from Porsche. The GTS is simply the best deal of the moment if you’re looking for a 911. Add to that that it be the last naturally breathable 911 (the rumors about standard turbocharged engines for the next generation of swell) and it could be the collectors item of the century. Ask a Porscheliefhebber what the last “real 911” and you will probably get as answer “the 993 because it was air-cooled”. The same effect might well arise with the atmospheric 911. I need you to remember what is there at the moment with the prices of second-hand Porsches 993 happens?
Exactly, so buy it all in a Porsche 911 GTS and wash in a few years the second-hand market is comfortable with it, then I have a bit of choice at that time. Movie!
