Today, science knows of more than 4,000 species of snakes. Among them, the Arabian sand boa (Eryx jayakari) stands out – its eyes are located on the top of its head. Because of this, it seems that nature made a mistake when creating this sinuous creature.

This unusual reptile lives only in the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula and western Iran. The Arabian sand boa is not poisonous and grows to a maximum length of 38 centimeters. It is most often active at night – it can successfully hunt small rodents only in complete darkness.

During the day, the snake hides under the sand. That's why its eyes are located on the top of its head, and not on the side, like other snakes. Being under a layer of sand, the snake remains invisible – from this position, it easily grabs prey, catching it by surprise.

The rarest dolphins in the world
There are 17 main species of dolphins on Earth. The most unusual of them are the Irrawaddy dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris), which live in the coastal waters of the Indian Ocean. They live in groups of 306 individuals and can move from one group to another.

All other species of dolphins have a beak, but Irrawaddy dolphins do not. Their head has a pronounced round shape, which is why they do not really look like representatives of the dolphin family.

Because of the unusual shape of their head, after emerging from the water, they have to spin around their axis to see everything that is happening around them. Their facial expression always resembles a smile, so they have the most friendly appearance. However, this is true – dolphins are very kind creatures that quickly get used to people.

Unfortunately, Irrawaddy dolphins are an endangered species. At the end of the 20th century, due to human activity, they almost completely died out.
