Proven: green streets are associated with better sleep

Scientists analyzed data from more than 16,000 people from 14 European countries, as well as Australia, Canada, the United States and Hong Kong as part of the BlueHealth International Survey (BIS). People were asked about the amount of greenery on their street, whether they have views of rivers, lakes and coastlines from their home, how much free time they spend in nature, their mental health and the number of hours of sleep per night.
< p>Those who lived on greener streets or had views of lakes, rivers, and coastlines from their homes tended to report better mental health. This was associated with healthier amounts of sleep. At the same time, people who spent more time relaxing in green and blue spaces reported the same.
In general, the results of the study showed that 17% of people who live on green streets sleep less than 6 hours per day. But among those who did not live on such streets, there were 22%.
