The author notes that concrete can indeed be recycled. But in some cases – not completely. To do this, it is crushed, and then get rid of the unwanted materials that make up its composition. After that, the resulting substance can be reused: for example, to create new paths.
However, it is sometimes difficult to recycle concrete. For example, if it contains a large amount of environmental pollutants. But it's worth trying anyway, because recycling just one ton of concrete saves 6,182 liters of water and prevents the production of 900 kg of carbon dioxide.
There are more innovative types of concrete. One of them was proposed by scientists from the University of Tokyo. Such a material is created from calcium carbonate. Specialists extract calcium from discarded concrete structures and combine it with carbon dioxide.
