And what is it connected with? Oksana Mikhaleva, an endocrinologist and nutritionist at SM-Clinic, spoke about the dangerous properties of some types of wild fish that they receive because of their diet. Discuss
Methylmercury is an organic form of mercury that is toxic to humans and can accumulate in the body.
So, according to Mikhaleva, some edible fish species can be dangerous for humans just due to the presence of methylmercury in them. The thing is that some fish are able to accumulate it in themselves after eating algae, which are rich in it. The nutritionist clarifies that the longer a fish lives, the more “dangerous” it becomes.
Certain types of fish contain much more methylmercury. So, shark, swordfish, bigeye tuna, marlin and king mackerel are considered fish with the highest content of the toxic element. At the same time, the “average” amount of methylmercury is found in yellowfin and longfin tuna, cod, carp, sea bass, dorado, sea trout and perch. You may be less likely to get poisoned by methirtut by eating fish such as flounder, salmon, river trout, sea bass, herring and anchovies.
