Researchers found that physical exercise for older people can actually improve their memory.
A team including Kirk Erickson, an advisor to Aghjayan, in the Department of Psychology and other researchers from Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Iowa, published their findings in the journal Communications Medicine.
“We found that people aged 55 to 68 experienced greater memory improvements compared to those aged 69 to I am 85 years old, so it is better to start classes earlier,” Agjayan said. The team also found the greatest effect of exercise in those who had not yet experienced cognitive decline and in studies where participants exercised consistently multiple times a week.
