This was found out by a team of scientists from Yale University. The human brain has its own mechanism designed to get rid of all sorts of cellular “garbage”. However, how does he understand when it is necessary to start such an operation? American scientists answered this question.Discuss
In a recent study, a team of scientists from Yale University discovered a protein that plays a major role in the process of ridding the brain of “garbage”. The name of this protein is ATG-9. It is he who gives the signal to start the “cleaning”. The results of this study were published in Neuron.
In the course of the study, experts studied the functions of the ATG-9 protein. Scientists believe that ATG-9, with an increase in neuronal activity, signals the need to start autophagy (“eating” the cells themselves, due to which the brain is “cleansed”). That is, this protein acts as a coordinator of both autophagy and neural activity.
