Maserati Ghibli Hybrid with four-cylinder finally unveiled!

The extra durable, clean and hopefully almost BPM-free Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is here.

Maserati is a brand for petrol heads. It is a brand that most have a soft spot for. Maserati is not as perfectionist as a Porsche or as sleek as a BMW. It is a kind of Italian Jaguar. A car for people who value style more than infotainment and four-cylinder.

Florissanter

Those are two important reasons why the Maserati Ghibli has not completely caught on. It's not a huge flop by any means, but the sales figures might have been a little better if the Italians had been a little more conformist. In other words: nobody bought a Ghibli because of the infotainment system, but left it for it.

Ghibli Hybrid

Hopefully, the new Maserati Ghibli Hybrid will make up for that. The rumors have been circulating for a while, but now the Ghibli Hybrid is finally here. The engine is a 2.0 liter four-cylinder with turbo. This is supported by a 48V alternator and electric supercharger called an e-booster. The battery is mounted in the rear for ideal weight distribution. Speaking of weight, according to Maserati the Ghibli Hybrid is no less than 80 kilograms lighter than the Ghibli diesel.

Performance

In terms of power, the Ghibli Hybrid delivers exactly as much as the petrol-fired six-cylinder: 330 hp. The maximum torque is a maximum of 450 Nm. As standard, the Ghibli is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF, which transfers all power to the rear wheels. The performance is more than okay. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 5.7 seconds. The top speed of the Ghibl Hybrid is not limited to 250 km/h for a change. On the Autostrada you can go 255 km/h, if the Carabinieri looks the other way.

3200 GT-esque rearlights

Speaking of looking, if you look closely you can see that the Ghbili Hybrid differs slightly from the common Ghibli. The gills and calipers are in blue. A bit like Porsche uses the fluorescent green for the e-Hybrid models. Also new are the rear lights, which have a different layout and are reminiscent of the Boomerang rear lights of the Maserati 3200 GT.

Lower BPM

With the new powertrain, the intention is that the Ghibli will be a lot cheaper. Lower CO2 emissions result in a lower BPM fine. The infotainment system has also been adapted to convince the critical customers. The new system has a large screen and runs on an Android OS.

Electrification

The Maserati Ghibli is the first electrified Maser, but more will follow. The new GranCoupé and GranCabrio are fully electric and are planned for 2021.
