Mass production of electric crossover Tesla Model Y, on which the head of the American company Elon Musk spoke for the first time in 2015, will begin by the end of 2020, according to a corporate letter sent to shareholders this week on Wednesday, according to the portal TechCrunch. The letter also reports that the company will begin building production lines for the new electric vehicle this year. As also previously mentioned that, in contrast to other models, Tesla, Model Y is likely to gather a huge megafactories company in Nevada.
The Musk is quite optimistic about the future Model Y, a new model predicting higher sales compared to Model 3. In addition, the company believes that the cost of production Model Y will be markedly lower than that of Model 3, which is collected at the factory in Fremont (CA). The reason is that both models will be built on the same platform — Model Y will use up to 75 percent of the components used in the production Model 3. The letter also stated about the expectations of more rapid growth in the production of a new electric vehicle. Recall that the Model 3 at the start it had problems. Apparently, the company took into account all mistakes and will try to avoid this in the future.
Production of the new electric crossover Tesla at megafactories company in Nevada will allow to reduce production risks, as well as logistics costs – no need to spend money on transporting parts from Nevada to California, where the Model 3, Musk said in a letter to investors.
“This year should be really exciting for Tesla. Model 3 will be a global product, should be steadily positive, the profitability of our business and we must earn new megaplant in Shanghai, and we will start preparing for the production of Model Y” — the letter says.
