To create different electronic structures on the surface of metals used nanomaterials that should be applied by a special laser. While earlier it was done almost “manually”. But, as the press service of the far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), the Russian scientists together with their foreign colleagues managed to create a technology ultrafast laser ultrafast lasers with femtosecond laser with a frequency of 1 million pulses per second.
New technology will be useful, for example, for the rapid and economical production of touchscreen devices.
“To achieve this we split the laser at 50 pulses with special optical elements. The laser shines on the metal film, it melts, and then in the liquid phase formed structures and freeze. We are talking about the acceleration of the creation of such structures. That is, the surface is scanned with one beam, and creates a special element that divides a single beam 50 rays. Formed a band of 50 points, which is a very quick scan. The sample can be scanned in one direction, no displacement, no displacement. This allows you to use the maximum frequency of pulses due to the fact that we can move to one side and print on the conveyor. Therefore, the speed reaches 10 million items per second”, — told one of the authors, researcher, Department of theoretical and nuclear physics School of natural Sciences FEFU Alexander Kuchmiak.
The results of the work published in Scientific Reports, Applied Surface Science and Optics Letters. According to experts, created so sensory items can be used, for example, detection of hazardous gases, liquids, cancer markers and waste products of pathogenic microorganisms.
“Due to the structures that are formed on the metal surface, the infrared radiation enters the surface wave. If the surface with nanostructures coated with at least one layer of any substance, the spectrum of the reflected infrared radiation is changing, and these changes can be understood the composition of matter.” — said Alexander, Kuchmiak.
