Every Monday in the new issue of “News of high technologies” we summarize the results of the last week, talking about some of the most important events, the key discoveries and inventions. Today we talk about the return of astronauts to the ISS, the high-speed tunnel Elon musk. Below the news you can find in a text format.
The astronauts returned
Two astronauts and a cosmonaut returned to Earth on Thursday after a hectic stay on the ISS, overshadowed by the air leak and failure of the rocket, which was to lead shift crew. The spacecraft “Soyuz”, on Board of which was Alexander Gerst from the European space Agency, the Serine Augen-Chancellor of NASA and Sergey Prokofiev of Roscosmos landed safely in Kazakhstan, said Russian space Agency.
The spacecraft landed slightly ahead of schedule at 08:02 Moscow time. The team feels good after return to Earth.
Due to the dense fog, failed to capture the descent of the apparatus. When rescuers removed the crew from the capsule, Prokopiev and Augen-Chancellor was pale and weak in appearance due to prolonged exposure to microgravity, while Gerst was a good sport and even gave an interview to German TV channel.
When the astronauts went to the ISS in June, they were among the least experienced teams ever to align to the station — Gerst only been in space before, in 2014. He Gerst has now spent 363 days at the ISS, a record for the European space Agency.
Elon Musk has opened the first high-speed tunnel
December 18, Elon Musk, opened its first high-speed tunnel The Boring Company in the city of Horton. Earlier it was reported that it will be free to ride the first passengers, but this did not happen. But Elon Musk has published pictures and videos that show the interior of the tunnel and a new design of the Tesla Model X, allowing it to firmly hold the rails and drive along them.
Tunnel with a length of 2.3 km and a width of 4.3 meters was dug directly under the headquarters of SpaceX in Hawthorne. Its construction cost the company $ 10 million, including the costs of holding the light, the installation of the ventilation system and security.
Previously it was thought that Tesla cars will travel in the tunnel riding on the platforms installed on the rails. It turned out that electric cars will be moved on rails independently, with retractable wheels — they help the vehicle maintain the trajectory. The cost of such system will be 200-300 dollars.
This system can be installed on any electric cars with system of automatic piloting, not just Tesla. Movement speed on rails will be 241 km/h — according to Elon musk, it is the optimal limit. In his opinion, moving at that speed through the underground tunnel in different parts of the city will be like a teleportation.
Google has created a work of art
Google has created a work of art using traffic cloud service. Using only one cloud storage Google Cloud daily runs many terabytes of traffic, and recently a group of designers from Google Cloud Storage in conjunction with the Agency Staman Design to visualize these flows. But not with boring tables, but as a fascinating interactive paintings.
To create a simple, clear and intuitive “picture of traffic” the designers used information on the data transfer rate in individual countries and regions, sizes of files, points between which traffic is proxied and a bunch of parameters.
The main idea of the project was to create a global picture of the whole service that would highlight the patterns of the traffic flows, and this in turn would give the opportunity to provide customers with more convenient tools for doing business, help companies understand how users of certain regions used specific products, goods and services.
Fingerprints in the car
Hyundai cars can be run with the help of the fingerprint. We are talking about not just the starting mechanism of the car and the doors unlock which is very interesting, because the main difficulty lies in the fact that placing the sensor outside the passenger compartment, the engineers had to overcome a lot of difficulties from the weather and road conditions to the banal mechanical impact.
The South Korean automaker said that drivers will be able to open and close the doors and start the engine. In each vehicle, such sensors will have two. The first is located outside of the car, and the second near the steering wheel and is intended to start the machine. Moreover, if the car has multiple authorized users, on-Board computer of the car will recognize each of them and to automatically change the position of the seat, mirrors, steering and other parameters for each driver.
The first car equipped with the new system, will be an updated version of the Hyundai Santa Fe crossover, which will be held in the first half of 2019.
