The administration of the President of Russia, and Roskomnadzor is preparing amendments that would increase fines for technology companies for violation of the law “On information”. This was announced by the publication Reuters, citing three sources, including employees of Russian and foreign Internet companies, as well as the source in industry associations.
As planned by the authorities, increased fines will be able to “motivate” companies like Facebook, Google and Telegram to fulfill the requirements of the Russian legislation. If the amendments will enter into force, fines will be 1% of annual revenue-violators in Russia.
In the past five years, Russian law has imposed more stringent regulation of the Internet. However, according to Roskomnadzor, many large companies still do not comply with the requirements of the law in Russia. Among such “ignoring” — Facebook, Telegram and Google.
