Ruselectronics will protect the forest from illegal felling with the help of RFID

New technology eventually spread to virtually all areas of our lives and sometimes it is a very interesting application. For example, recently the representatives of the holding company Ruselectronics, which is part of rostec state Corporation has successfully tested an RFID-labels for marking of wood of valuable breeds. This should not only to automate the cutting of hardwood, but also significantly reduce illegal destruction of rare species of trees on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Recall that RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification or radio frequency identification) is an automatic method for identifying objects using radio signals. With the radio signal as the data is read and written to special schemes, which are called RFID tags. They are easy to install and use on almost any items.

In a recent test was obtained close to 100% results of identification of wood in the car truck and the car when reading fixed RFID portal at a distance up to 11 meters. In addition, labels also withstand a permanent load of 1.5 tons and a shock load of 5 tons. Also the advantage of RFID tags is that they can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +65 degrees Celsius. As stated by Executive Director of rostec state Corporation Oleg Yevtushenko,

“Growing global demand for fine wood provokes an increase in illegal logging, the damage from which annually amounts to billions of rubles. While the felling takes place in the vast, often inaccessible areas. For control and accounting logging effective solution is the use of modern digital systems. Our labels are a versatile solution for marking timber logging and monitoring at all stages.”

At the moment, the marking will be subject to the three trees of valuable wood: oak, beech and ash. Also, RFID tags will be used for marking of logs and lumber. The final phase of testing is scheduled for 2019. Later there will be the introduction of the system in operation.
