Startups will revive foldable smartphones with QWERTY-keyboard

The British company Planet Computers, specializing in gadgets with a hardware keyboard for typing, presented unusual smartphone the Cosmo Communicator and has launched a campaign to raise funds for him on crowdfunding site Indiegogo.

It is made in the form factor of the legendary Nokia communicators. Latest this Communicator can be considered a Nokia E90 (review), since more than 10 years was not as popular smartphone in this form factor.

Cosmo Communicator is equipped with a main of 5.99-inch touch screen with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, a hardware QWERTY keyboard and the internal camera of 5 MP.

In the folded state, the user is available 24-megapixel camera, fingerprint scanner, dedicated buttons for calls, a speaker and a microphone, and a small 2-inch screen with a resolution 570 x 240 pixels for alerts and similar information.



Hardware based on MediaTek Helio P70, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal flash memory expandable with microSD cards.

The smartphone runs on Android operating system 9 Pie. Supports dual SIM, VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS, FM radio, are stereo speakers, two USB Type-C and a 3.5 mm headphone Jack. The battery has a capacity of 4220 mAh. Dimensions are 171,4 x 79,3 x 16 mm and weighs 320 grams.

The first users who will participate in sponsoring the project can get the Cosmo Communicator for 549 dollars. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in may 2019. The final retail price will be 799 dollars.
