The Chinese authorities have announced plans to launch a “satellite flare” in 2020. This “artificial Moon” would be eight times brighter than the real moon, and will distribute the twilight glow.
Such satellite can cover the surface of the Earth a diameter of 10 to 80 kilometers, the area coverage can be adjusted to within a few tens of meters. An artificial satellite will be used as a Supplement to the moon at night. As planned by the developers, its brightness will be enough to replace street lights.
Initially, information about plans to launch a “artificial moon” revealed the representative of China aerospace scientific and technological Corporation. A lighting satellite is planned to launch at least for the city of Chengdu.
The developers were inspired by the idea of a French artist on a series of mirrors above the Ground, which reflect sunlight to the surface of the Earth at night.
