Its design and movements of the Japanese droid like the Atlas robot from Boston Dynamics, who knows the basics of parkour. However, there’s one big difference — HRP-5P is completely devoid of the outer body, and all its internal mechanisms exposed. It turns out that no metal sheath is not due to the laziness of engineers, and other causes.
First, the metal plates can interfere with the sensors to recognize the surrounding space. The whole design of the robot is covered with electronics, which helps him to see objects and obstacles, and then gently raise the Board and just attach them to the wall. Second, the outer housing greatly increases the weight of the structure, and without HRP-5P weighs no more than 100 kg.
Also the video that the robot is connected to nothing, that is, working from its own battery. To abandon the external power source again was helped by the lack of metallic coating — easy mechanism consumes less power.
Japanese droid can do the interior finishing and minor repairs, but in the world there are robots with greater challenges. For example, in August 2018 engineers from Singapore have created a prototype mechanism for 3D printing of huge buildings.
