“Spring law” about storing the whole user traffic for 30 days came into force

Today, October 1, 2018, in Russia came into force a government decree obliging operators within six months to store all user traffic over the last 30 days.

This requirement is one of the sections of the so-called “Law of Spring”. The law itself entered into force on July 1, 2018. However, the government has given a reprieve to operators until October 1 because they did not have the legitimate ability to store the conversations of users due to the lack of the necessary certified equipment for storage.

Operators are required to keep 6 months all traffic, including all telephone conversations, text messages, images, sounds, videos, and other electronic messages of users. This is a huge amount of information. In addition, within five years, operators must annually increase the storage capacity by 15%.
