Paleontology is one of those Sciences, whose achievements can, if not to overturn the generally accepted view, at least, to get a new look at already known things, or even an entire era. For example, according to the publication Current Biology, a team of researchers has discovered on the territory of the Republic of South Africa (South Africa) the skeleton of a giant 12-ton dinosaur that, according to the findings, is the largest terrestrial animals that lived on Earth about 200 million years ago.
The discovery was made while studying sedimentary rocks in South Africa. In it are preserved many fossils and this is not the first discovery of experts, but the most significant. Paleontologists have discovered that ancient dinosaurs walked on four legs and lived on the plains of modern South Africa. Now this area is a mountainous area with meadows, but 200 million years ago he was a semi-desert with small oases. It is assumed that dinosaurs were “nomadic” lifestyle, moving from one fertile area to another. The new dinosaur is named Ledumahadi mafube. And what’s funny, translated from one of the official languages of South Africa it means “powerful thunder at dawn”. According to one of the participants from the University of the Witwatersrand, Dr. Blair McPhee,
“Ancient dinosaurs were like giant sauropods, but the limbs of these animals, as a rule, were quite thin and Ledumahadi mafube they were extremely massive.”
But that’s not all. It was found that Ledumahadi mafube is in a relationship with other giants. Already mentioned sauropods that lived on the territory of modern Argentina. And this is not surprising, because in the time of dinosaurs Pangaea (single continent) still existed and dinosaurs could easily move to any point.
