Most modern computers vulnerable to so-called attacks by cold reboot. I spoke to a Finnish company F-Secure, following his passion for information security and privacy.
Using this attack, attackers can steal encryption keys and other important information. To do this, the hacker must have physical access to the computer before being able to exploit the vulnerability. Then, for computer hacking will take about five minutes.
This type of attack is known to hackers since 2008. The attack requires a full computer restart or shutdown and the retirement of his memory. When you restart the computer do not give to complete the shutdown process, and then restore the data some time available in memory after a power failure.
Modern laptops overwrite memory to prevent similar types of attacks. However, experts F-Secure discovered a way to disable the rewriting process and take advantage of the old-fashioned method of cold boot.
Information on the found vulnerabilities have already been sent to Apple, Microsoft and Intel.
