Google accused of meddling in elections in Russia

The Prosecutor’s office has warned Google about the inadmissibility of interference in the elections in Russia. This was stated by Alexei Jafarov, Deputy head of Department for supervision over execution of laws on Federal security.

As noted Jafarov, the letter in itself does not require a response from Google. He explained: “But this is quite a serious measure, followed has to be attraction to the responsibility established by law. Everyone who faced with this, understand this, therefore, we expect that such big and respected company heed our warning”.

CEC and Roskomnadzor also had complaints, giving Google a formal letter. They indicate no advertising of illegal activities on election day.

As noted by Vadim Subbotin, the Deputy head of Roskomnadzor, on YouTube now dozens of specialized channels “are massive action” calling for the violation of the law. Subbotin said: “By providing virtually unlimited opportunities from foreign Internet giants such as Google, a number of interested in destabilizing the situation in Russia, the persons attempts to attract users to illegal online activities”.
