Germany will cease to censor the swastika in computer games

Years the swastika and other Nazi symbols were out of the German versions of computer games, but soon that may change.

Computer games often can’t do without enemies and villains And on the role of villains, the Nazis and fascists fit very well. However, publishers and developers had to be very careful with Nazi symbols when it came to the release in Germany. Wolfenstein II developers even had to remove the mustache of Adolf Hitler.

The situation may change in connection with the announced German regulator USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle) some innovations in the rating system and adaptation of games for Germany. Now the game will be treated the same as movies: as a work of art of a game exempt from censorship on the swastika. The regulator explained that the games can be used symbols of unconstitutional organizations while they serve the purpose of art and science, or present historical events.
