The Chinese company Baidu has introduced a chip for artificial intelligence called “Kunlun” during the annual event “Baidu creates”, which was held on Tuesday. Company joins the Chinese race among hardware vendors, developed specifically for machine learning. Baidu also could compete with Google, but because of the “iron curtain” corporations are unlikely to be in the same market together.
“Kunlun” optimized for different tasks of artificial intelligence, including voice recognition, natural language processing, image recognition and Autonomous driving. Development of the chip lasted for seven years: in 2011, Baidu began to create specialized processors for AI with the use of a FPGA (a kind of chip that can be reconfigured “on the fly”). New design 30 times faster than the original processor on an FPGA, but the company claims that are not yet ready to begin mass production.
The ability of artificial intelligence Baidu is developing fast. Driverless vans, the company will soon operate between the campuses of the power plants in China. EasyDL, a tool for deep learning designed for people with basic technical education, enables doctors to use an improvised diagnostic tools like efficient screening of parasites and other things.
Your own equipment will allow Baidu to expand and scale the capabilities of your AI at a low price. The weak semiconductor industry of China has also been the subject of internal interests after the defeat of ZTE. Growing trade relations with the United States encourage China’s interest in fundamental technologies.
The “Chinese Google” has presented its first chip for artificial intelligence. Started?
