In sci-Fi movies we are used to seeing various types of weapons that as “ammunition” used laser beam. But is “fantastic” all these guns? Apparently, the future is much closer than we think. After all, as the press service of the XI’an Institute of optics (China), scientists of this institution have managed to develop a real gun that shoots a laser.
Laser weapon is called ZKZM-500, although some refer to it as “laser AK-47”. According to the developers, the gun is capable of hitting targets at distances up to 800 metres, causing a rapid charring of the surface layer of the skin that causes severe pain. The laser may damage the sensitive retina of the eye and dazzle the enemy. In addition, it is argued that “laser AK-47” is powered by lithium-ion batteries and is capable of producing several thousand two-second shots during the work, limited to 30 minutes. Weight of the machine is about 3 pounds.
Other details about laser machine at the moment, but some experts have questioned the veracity of the claims of the vendor. In particular, it States the fact that one laser shot will require several tens of kilowatts of energy, and given the fact that the gun is powered by lithium-ion batteries, their weight is several tens of times higher than the stated 3 pounds. Moreover, the laser “bullets” weaken with increasing range from the target, so to defeat the enemy from a distance of 800 meters it will take even more energy, and therefore more capacious accumulators in order to study the claimed 30 minutes. In any case, as they say, no smoke without fire, and the creation of portable laser weapons is just a matter of time.
