Researchers from the University of Texas at Austin and Nanjing University in China have developed a method of determining the spoiled food with your smartphone. About it it is told in article of the journal Nano Letters.
To identify spoiled food uses a special NFC-tag with sensor for determining biogenic amines, are responsible for the unpleasant smell of stale meat.
In laboratory tests, markers were placed next to raw meat and left for 24 hours at a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. The sensors were able to track the smell of decomposition, which was not yet noticeable by the human nose. In determining decomposition, NFC label was activated and transferred to the smartphone warning app.
Technology can be used in packages for meat, allowing distributors and customers to easily track the freshness of products by simply holding the smartphone close.
