The development team Yandex announced the launch of a mobile application of “people’s map”. It allows everyone to participate in the creation of maps, cartographers just sending pictures of streets.
For example, if you capture the recently introduced Parking sign, it will appear in the Navigator and Yandex.Maps. You can attach the smartphone on the windshield of the car or the bike and take the entire route: the app will automatically take a picture every one to two seconds. As a result, photos will be taken on the tools to edit the maps, and its users will be able to compare the pictures with the map and make changes to it.
Using computer vision Yandex finds in pictures information, you want to add to the map. Now the application is able to recognize the photographs of the speed limit signs and Parking lots, the turn — other signs and road markings. These data will be taken into account when constructing routes, to help give drivers maneuvers, the speed limit and find a Parking lot.
