Ford started to test the automatic delivery of goods and food using specially modified commercial van Transit Connect.
Currently a pilot project with Postmates launched in Miami and Miami beach. It involved more than 70 companies. Residents of areas where the project was launched, when ordering products or other goods the opportunity to select the shipping option on the Autonomous car.
In the modified van, the Transit Connect has three boxes – one on the passenger side and two behind. One machine can serve multiple orders within a single route. Boxes for shipping vary in size, each equipped with a pair of Cup holders for safe transport of beverages. According to the results of the project will determine the optimal configuration of such boxes.
After the car with the goods arrives at the destination, the user receives an SMS that the order can be picked up. On the touch screen you need to dial an access code received after placing the order, after which the display shows a message indicating the whereabouts of the goods, and lights up the backlight corresponding box.
