Facebook has learned to open my eyes in the photo

The developers of social network Facebook has created an algorithm based on neural networks able to fix bad photo where the model blinked and submitted with my eyes closed. The algorithm can “open” the eye on the basis of one bad photo.

The developers have trained a neural network to recognize closed eyes in the photos, but replace them with suitable eyes open, and then touch up the result. The process takes into account parameters such as angle, lighting, makeup and so on.

Such algorithms are often far from perfect. As you can see in the illustration, the artificial intelligence does not understand many important things, for example, that the opening of the eyes should not change the color of the skin around or that lashes should not suddenly be too much.

In the illustration from left to right presents a photo of a man with open eyes, bad photo with which to work, the result of the algorithm in Photoshop and the result of the new algorithm. Development Facebook gives much more realistic results than Photoshop — the eyes don’t look cut from a different image, with no apparent seams and mismatched colors.
