Vladimir Putin suggested to establish at least one free Wi-Fi in villages with a population of at least 100 people. The President instructed the government to prepare amendments to the law “On communications” and report back by September 1, 2018, a Similar pilot project is already working, but only affects localities with population from 250 to 500 people.
The project budget will be announced later, but it is now clear that it will be very significant, because to equip Wi-Fi will have tens of thousands of localities, each of which will be necessary to install the equipment to meet the “Spring Law”, to emails, pictures, videos, and other data users within 30 days.
Since 2014 until today the Federal program of eliminating the digital divide implements “Rostelecom”. According to the plan before the end of this year, the company equips new access points 13,6 thousand settlements. For this purpose the government has earmarked 168 billion rubles.
