Color blindness is not fatal, but quite unpleasant disease in which a person almost does not distinguish color. And there are many ways of correcting this condition, but they are all tied to the use of electronics or complicated optical devices, whether special glasses VR-helmets or a computer program. But that could change thanks to the development of scientists from the University of Birmingham, who have created a cheap to produce contact lenses that help color-blind people to regain vision.

Scientists from the University of Birmingham decided that in order to return the lost ability to see colors, we need to strengthen the perception of a special dye based on a derivative of rhodamine, which absorbs light waves of a certain length. When applying the colorant on a contact lens, it “locks” the wavelength range from 545 to 575 nanometers. It’s between medium and long waves. As a result, increases the contrast between the green and red colors, and enhances the perception of one of the most common types of color blindness.
Moreover, the new contact lenses have passed clinical tests. In the study, two groups of people were asked to name the colors of the suggested items, and then the objects around them. In the end, a group of people who used contact lenses, showed much better results in comparison with the control group. As stated by the author of the development of Haider butt,
“Our contact lenses are of interest for the correction of color blindness. Treatment, which we carried out, does not require complicated preparation, it is non-toxic to the human eye, and the method can be used not only in the manufacture of contact lenses and ordinary glasses”.
