Augmented reality glasses from Bose use sound instead of images

Augmented reality really has the potential to become the technology that will be widespread. She was interested not only in the core companies like Google with project Glass or Microsoft developing Holo Lens, but also producers, that is to say, adjacent areas. For example, a major manufacturer of audio equipment Bose recently unveiled its own AR glasses. Moreover, the device interacts with the user using the display information to the display points, and through sound.

New glasses don’t even have names, as produced in small quantities for demonstration of new technologies. The function of “add reality” in the AR glasses from Bose is implemented very elegantly: the gadget is equipped with two highly directional speakers built into the arms, which allows not only to obtain “feedback” from the points, but also to listen to music. Also the glasses have motion sensors, GPS and communication module with a smartphone.

Thanks to the integrated sensors, Bose glasses “know” the direction in which the user’s gaze. For example, looking at the building or the sign, people will be able to description, mode of operation, the feedback contacts of the firms located in the home, and much more. Of course, in audio format. The first prototype was printed on a 3D printer, and, according to the first test points

“It really is a super lightweight AR-gadget from Bose, which does not restrict the movements and hardly felt on the face. It looks like ordinary sunglasses and does not attract attention, and all the electronics, including the battery, fitted inside the case”.

In this case, the results of the contextual information are not limited to glasses and are able to respond to gestures. For example, when receiving a telephone call, the user can nod your head to answer a call, or shake her to ignore the call. Also worth mentioning is the fact that to make AR glasses on their own Bose no plans: the company will establish a venture Fund with a capital of 50 million USD and will allocate funds for the creation of an ecosystem around its AR-platform. With Bose already agreed to cooperate with ASICS, Strava, TripAdvisor, TuneIn and Yelp. Date of start of production and final prices at the moment remain unknown.
