Russian scientists develop unique batteries for future space missions

The issues of creating a succinct and effective energy supply is particularly relevant in terms of space, just where “to plug it in” battery will not work. Therefore, in the field of energy are ongoing developments. For example, in our country in the next few years appear very promising accumulators are new type for operation in space.

The development is conducted by specialists of the Central research and experimental design Institute of robotics and technical Cybernetics (TSNII RTK) which plan in the framework of the project “Cosmorama” to complete work on batteries in the next few years. As the General designer of TSNII RTK Alexander Lopota in interview to Agency “Interfax”,

“We are now at the stage of design documentation development with the transition in the next year directly to the manufacture of the product. We hope that the project will be completed in 2020.”

If to speak about the project “Cosmorama”, it envisages the creation of an automated system for space applications, which will include a special mobile robot, control system, integration and ground segment.

“Mobile robot will consist of a base unit, battery pack, two manipulators, a reference node, the review of cameras and transceiver. Trial operation is scheduled from 2020 to 2024 on the basis of Scientific-power module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station”.
