The press service of “Rostelecom” reported that major Russian telecommunications company acquired 75% of shares in “Open mobile platform” and “Patrone”, the companies responsible for developing an operating system Sailfish OS.
This acquisition is a logical step for the company, which in the near future plans to please clients “a comprehensive proposal with a full range of digital services” and is going to establish a corporate smartphone based on Sailfish Mobile OS RUS — Russian operating system, created on the basis of Sailfish.
Sailfish Mobile OS RUS developed an “Open mobile platform” and is certified for use in smartphones civil servants and corporate customers. In addition, it is assumed that it will be installed on the Russian smartphone INOI R7.
Today Sailfish Mobile OS RUS is the only operating system listed in the registry of domestic software, so public authorities should give preference in procurement. In addition, the OS is seen as an alternative to iOS and Android Russian officials.
A few days ago, the Finnish company Jolla, which control is also passed to the “Rostelecom”, reported that it continues work on the operating system, and introduced its third version.
