Elon Musk resigned from the Board of Directors of OpenAI, but there’s a plus

Non-profit research organization OpenAI, the development of artificial intelligence, announced that Elon Musk, one of its main sponsors and founders, left the chair, which he occupied in the Board of Directors of the organization. Musk not only helped shape the main vision and goal of OpenAI, but also made a significant contribution to the growth of this non-profit enterprise.

The announcement of the expiration of the term Musk in the Board of Directors Open AI was published in the official blog of the organization:

“Elon Musk is stepping down as the Board of Directors of OpenAI, but will continue to make both financial and consulting assistance to the organization. As Tesla continues to ramp up their interest in the direction of artificial intelligence, this may create a potential conflict for Ilona inside of the organization”.

Now the OpenAI Board of Directors consists of four members: Greg Brockman, Elijah Suckewer, Holden Karnofsky, as well as Sam Altman, which Musk founded the company. The company not only plans to find a replacement for Elon musk, but also to expand their team, according to the publication.

Recall that OpenAI was founded in 2015 and focused around a number of very prominent representatives of the IT industry, as well as the many supporters who have supported the goals and objectives of the organization, including:

  • Monitoring the openness of creating and using artificial intelligence;
  • Control over programs that can create other programs. Including the creation of an agent (AI), are able to participate in online programming contests;
  • The development of cyber security (e.g., preventing the occurrence of a taking AI hackers);
  • Complex modelling with many agents. Creation of closed systems, in which agents (AI) will be able to interact with each other, to learn over a long period of time, to learn languages and achieve different goals.

Open task AI is not directed at the prohibition of the creation and development of AI. They focused on the adequate level of control, which can prevent potential threats associated with creating a real artificial intelligence. For example, this week the organization published a report in which a number of world experts in the field of AI talks about a potential “malicious” methods of use of such technologies and share solutions to those problems.

Care Mask of OpenAI is, of course, in an unexpected move, especially considering that he created this organization, but at the same time, greater interest is not what is going to happen with OpenAI, but that will be with another company Mask – Tesla. The reason why “potential conflict Ilona inside the organization”, this may be a signal indicating that Tesla was doing more in-depth projects related to artificial intelligence.

Those who carefully follow each step of the company and all waiting, when it will move to the autonomy of the 5th level in their cars (complete rejection of manual control), can certainly perceive these changes in OpenAI as a sign that the company is at least close to that intended purpose.

The company’s customer base, in turn, had already shown interest in the presence of the more advanced features of artificial intelligence in their cars Tesla. More than 35,000 of them are even willing to pay 3000 dollars for something that their machines will be “complete autonomy”, although such functions are not even created. Who knows, if care Mask of OpenAI is really a sign that Tesla is approaching the 5th level of autonomy, their confidence in the company may soon be rewarded.
