Almost two years ago, the South Korean company Samsung has introduced a solid state drive (SSD) with capacity of 15.36 TB, intended for use in corporate storage systems. And now, after 2 years Samsung announces a new drive with doubled volume and performance.
The novelty in the form factor 2.5-inch new series PM1643 built on the basis of 512-Gigabit chips 64-layer flash memory V-NAND (for 16 pieces of 32 modules), has a volume of 30.72 TB and offers sequential read speeds and write at the level of 2100 MB/s and 1700 MB/s respectively. Performance on operations with random access is 400,000 IOPS in read mode and 50 000 IOPS when writing. Samsung promises that SSD is able to withstand the daily rewriting of the data during all five years of the warranty period.
In addition to such a monster, in a new series of SSD will present a model of “simple”: by 15.36 TB of 7.68 TB of 3.84 TB of 1.92 TB, 960 GB and 800 GB.
The South Korean giant did not shock the public price for the drive capacity of 30.72 TB, but given the cost model with a capacity of 15.36 TB in $ 10,000 at the start of sales, as well as significantly grown since then, memory prices (and do not forget doubled the amount), we can safely assume that the new SSD will be three, and even four times higher.
Recall that two years ago the American company Seagate Technology introduced the SSD volume is 60 TB, but the device has yet reached the market.
