Without a doubt, one of the most serious diseases are those that so strongly affect the human organs that become unable to perform its function. Then you have to resort to transplantation. However, not every transplanted organ will survive due to the fact that the own immune system of the person begins to attack the alien organ. There are many methods that suppress this process, but a group of scientists from the University of California, Davis (USA) offers to take another way: to grow whole organs in the sheep.
About the new development writes the Guardian, and, according to the authors, growing human organs in animals in this way can solve the problem of incompatibility. In the course of his work, American scientists use human stem cells that are injected into the embryos of sheep in the place of a bookmark of specific tissues. Thus scientists hope that implanted cells can develop in a healthy organ suitable for transplantation. As stated by one of the authors Dr. Pablo Ross,
“Today, even perfect bodies are long, because the immune system is constantly attacking them. The only exception is an extremely rare case of transplantation from identical twins. The embryos of sheep chosen by chance, and their use has many advantages. First, the organs of a sheep take root easily, so we experiment requires a smaller number of embryos. But the most important thing is that sheep and humans are similar in structure the lungs and heart. And this is one of the most complex organs for transplantation”.
Now a team of scientists will observe the embryos for 28 days. This time will be sufficient in order to trace the development of the organs and to see the first results in the formation of hybrid fabrics. Depending on the obtained results, the team will adjust its future work on growing new organs. Many scientists believe that such surveys are an important step towards the development of transplantation. What do you think? Speak out on this issue in our telegram chat!
