A metal detector is an electric device, which allows to detect metal objects in neutral or low-conductive medium due to their conductivity. Security at the entrance to places of a mass congestion of people, for example, in the station building or to a concert, every person must pass through a metal detector, and all personal items are scanned by means of an introscope, which we were told last week. How does the frame of the metal detector — this is in the news today!

Modern arched frame or metal detectors are pulse induction. The construction of such a device implies the existence of one or more inductance coils as receivers and transmitters. The system flows through the coil high-power short electrical pulses. Each pulse, in turn, generates a magnetic field. When the pulse ends, the magnetic field reverses its polarity to opposite and decays rapidly. This causes a new electrical impulse in the coil, called the “reflected pulse”. Its duration is very small and amounts to several tens of microseconds. Then the new coil is fed an electrical impulse, and the process repeats. Depending on the technical characteristics of the detector coil may be supplied from 25 to 1,000 pulses per second.

If the frame of the metal detector to place metal object, the pulse creates an opposite magnetic field in the object. This will make the reflected pulse coil for a few microseconds longer. The length of the reflected pulse at the detector analyzes the special scheme. It compares the actual pulse duration is expected and determines whether there is another magnetic field. If the reflected signal takes longer than expected, it indicates the presence of a field of a metal object. The scheme sends a signal to the integrator, which converts it to DC voltage. The voltage in turn is supplied to audioshare and generates a sound signal which alerts the security personnel about the presence of a metal object. From the false alarm rate of metal detectors protects a special algorithm for electromagnetic interference suppression.

Metal detectors are single-zone and multi-zone is having several coils, located at different heights. Multi-zone framework, in contrast to the single-band, allow us to determine the approximate location of metal objects and their height above the ground. They show which side and in the area of what part of the body of man is the detected object. If more than one hidden metallic object, each of them is found with location.

Also metal detectors can be equipped with smart meters placed inside the panels. Counters allow you to count the number of people passing through metal detectors, and the number of positives.
