Russian processors “Baikal” will go on General sale

Previously, we have repeatedly told you about the domestic company “Baikal electronics”, engaged in the design of integrated chips based on ARM architectures, and MIPS. Earlier processors company called Baikal-T1 was available for purchase only to legal entities. However, in the first quarter of 2018, they will go on General sale and will be available for purchase to all without exception.

Single Board computers without graphics processors Baikal-T1 will go on sale at a price of 50 000 rubles. This is four times cheaper than 200 000, for which these computers have been previously offered to legal entities. The manual “Baikal electronics” connects sharp decline in cost with increase in production capacity and, therefore, the circulation of the processors and the fact that the price does not include technical support from the manufacturers, which was previously mandatory option for legal entities. At the moment the processors are manufactured in a factory of the Taiwanese company TSMC.

In addition, the manufacturer of processors, has launched a service that allows you free test the performance of the chips through the official websites baik.al and baikal.cs.msu.ru. This project was launched at the faculty of computational mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow state University. Using the resources of a virtual laboratory, you can evaluate the performance of processors and also to test application and system software. Priority access to the equipment provides the staff of MSU, as well as members of research teams from Russia and foreign countries.

We remind you that 32-bit dual-core processors Baikal-T1 not trying to compete with the popular solutions to the companies Intel and AMD. They focus primarily on the use of various telecommunication equipment, industrial automation, military field and so on. The chip was developed by Russian specialists with the use of the licensed unit of the processor core from the company Imagination Technologies. The processor is made on 28 nm process technology, each of its cores running at 1.2 GHz. Today the company “Baikal electronics” produces this processor batches in excess of 100,000 pieces.
