Despite the rapid development of technologies in the field of Autonomous vehicles, almost all of them have one significant drawback: their travel even road signs and good road markings. And researchers from Finland has developed a new Autonomous car called Martti. It is, as the newspaper writes TechCrunch, allows the machine to ride even on a snowy mountain road where you not only marking, but the very boundaries of the roadway.
Of course, Martti able to control the movement of the car and in an urban environment. The rear of the vehicle is situated lidar for traffic control. In addition, the system carries a host of other sensors like radar, rangefinder and optical cameras. Special system to control the movement allows itself to build a height map, calculate the width of the roadway and to determine the boundaries of the road, and “present” where the lanes are not to go to the oncoming lane. As the creators of the system
“We have set a new world record for fully Autonomous driving, which was driving at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour in the snow, and even on a snowy road. On the road is not visible marking, the machine could go faster, we just decided to play it safe during the first test drive. We are currently working on another system that could operate the vehicle generally without roads, for example, in the forest or on rough terrain. In the spring of 2018, we plan to test this system”.
