Japanese scientists have created an “unbreakable” glass

Perhaps one of the most common breakdowns associated with smartphones, is cracked as a result of severe impact or fall of the screen. Engineers for many years trying to solve this problem, developing new protective coatings and more durable glassy alloys, but to get rid of the cracks or scratches in the end still fails. Nevertheless some gives hope to the new development of Japanese scientists.

Takuzo Professor Aida and his team from the University of Tokyo in the development of a new type of sticky substance eventually developed a glassy alloy having the property of self-repair when rendered on it pressure. The concept of glass, having the ability to recover, in fact is not new, but Japanese scientists looks at the background of the other real step forward. The material is created on the basis of synthetic polymers. The complete recovery of the structure of glass at its base requires about six hours, but the recovery effect is observed after a few minutes.

The updated material is as strong as it was before, and is able to withstand the load. Scientists believe that this effect is due to the fact that the separated molecules of the polymer or polyurea tends to return to its original state.

Earlier development of self-healing glass has shown the ability to restore only a superficial and shallow scratches. The new material can actually re-assemble after the complete destruction of its structure, for example, at fracture. This feature, of course, could find application in various practical fields. It is possible, and in the manufacture of glass panels for various electronics, including smartphones. However, Japanese scientists have not yet commented on whether you can and whether they are given material to commercialize.
