At first glance, the album Coditany of Timeness does not particularly stands out among hundreds of other albums in its genre. But this is only until you realize that no musician was not involved in the creation of these music tracks. In the process of its recording was not used guitars, drums or vocal. It was created in the framework of the project Dadabots, run by musicians, but concurrently also researchers in artificial intelligence CJ Carr and Zack Zukowski. To create music they use highly modified algorithm SampleRNN.
For training the neural network was used the music of the new York death metal band Kralice and their album “Diotima”. Tracks were broken into tiny pieces and “fed” the neural network. So artificial intelligence has mastered a genre new to get a feel for music and learned to create her own unique compositions. Training was as follows: neural network listened to the snippet and try to guess which section will be next. If she guessed right, this strengthened her confidence that she is moving in the right direction.
At first, artificial intelligence is simply generated random sounds. The authors of the project claim that listening to this was quite difficult because of the excessive textured appeal and grotesquely such music. It took more than three days and five million cycles to ensure that the music really began to resemble the genre of death metal.
