Waymo the company announced that its fully Autonomous taxi is finally ready. According to the press service of the developer, the Autonomous taxi service will be available to all very soon. This, of course, talking about major US cities where the service will appear in the first place.
The development of UAV in Waymo began eight years ago. Since then, robotic vehicles under the supervision of the drivers drove more than five million kilometers and the test was attended by more than twenty U.S. cities. All this allowed not only to teach the autopilot work in different conditions, but also to test his strength. Besides the usual trips autopilot practiced on the simulator, which drove millions of virtual miles in a day.
Two years ago, the company implemented the first fully unmanned trip, in which Steve Mahan, totally blind passenger was able to get on the robot taxi from his home to the doctor.
Until recently, all tests were conducted with the participation of the operator, who was inside the cabin and controlled all the actions of Autonomous cars, but more recently, testing has begun without them. The video, posted Waymo, demonstrates that the unmanned vehicle is quite confident on the road, self-adjusting speed and selecting the route for the movement.
In the company blog reported that the ordinary people will be able to call the unmanned taxi in the next few months.
